WHY DO WE NEED A SUPER ADMIN ACCESS?
It is a fair question to ask: why does ManagedMethods require super admin access?
Domain-wide delegation (installing the app for all users) requires a super admin to perform the installation.
ManagedMethods employs delegated user access to gain access to certain actions and data that are otherwise unavailable through the API. This could include tasks such as downloading a file to scan for risks or unsharing a file.
To utilize delegated user access, we need an account to connect through. This connected account requires super admin permissions. Without super admin permissions, the following services will not function:
- Sharing or unsharing files
- Collecting any data on Google Classrooms
- Pulling any data on other super admin accounts
- Quarantining files
- Revoking access tokens for third-party apps
Unfortunately, Google does not currently offer a custom role or role combination outside of super admin that grants the necessary permissions.
Google's APIs are constantly evolving, and our team regularly checks for changes that may allow us to use a custom role in the future.
